Going to Be A Happy New Year, Painting Snow, Your Website

Published 4 months ago • 1 min read

Hello Reader,

It's kinda hard to accept Christmas up here in the North without snow but I'm getting used to it. Likely, there will be snow soon and then we'll be anxious for it to end. How about you? Are you ready for some snow scenes - maybe enough to start creating your own?

I tried to find some interesting free videos or tutorials on how to paint snow but most were too elementary and Bob Ross wasn't free anymore. My suggestion for you is to wait for the snow to get inspired. If you live where there is no snow, then you really ought to plan a ski trip to experience the white stuff. That is, unless you escaped the snow. In that case, you will have to rely on memory for inspiration!

How to Get An Online Presence Without A Website

Do you absolutely need a website of your own? I have one but I have also found that there are many ways to create an online presence without the expense and work of owning your own website. Following is a list of places that you can go to get your artwork showcased.

  • Art Club Memberships: Many art clubs will have a website and they encourage members to post their bio and artwork.
  • FAA (fineartamerica.com): Create a Fine Art America page. This doesn't cost anything and you can upload your artwork and share the page. FAA makes their money by selling your artwork but you don't have to make sales to keep your page.
  • CaFE (callforentry.org): This is a great place to keep a portfolio. A big bonus is their listings of current and upcoming opportunities for juried shows and exhibitions.
  • Facebook and Instagram: This is an obvious alternative and many people as well as businesses use these sites instead of their own website. Everything you post can be saved to a photo file.

Hello Reader, Commissioned Art Commissions are a totally different way to sell artwork. The traditional way to market and sell artwork is to find the buyers after the artwork is created. Most working artists have lots of inventory waiting to be sold but with commissions the artwork is sold before it's created. Whether you are interested in finding out more about art commissions or not, I would like to get your feedback for future projects on teaching the business side of art. Please take a...
