Hello Reader, Commissioned Art Commissions are a totally different way to sell artwork. The traditional way to market and sell artwork is to find the buyers after the artwork is created. Most working artists have lots of inventory waiting to be sold but with commissions the artwork is sold before it's created. Whether you are interested in finding out more about art commissions or not, I would like to get your feedback for future projects on teaching the business side of art. Please take a...

Hello Reader, I found this article about a successful portrait artist with an extreme work ethic. His artwork is impressive and it's interesting that many of his portraits are done in egg tempera on panels. Here's John Darley's Website. Recently, my brother Paul said, "People think I'm lucky but I always say the harder I work, the luckier I get." This quote has been attributed to several different historical figures but none that say it exactly like my brother. Hard work definitely does...

Hello Reader, "Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world." Harriet Tubman African American Culture and Art I heard this quote recently and thought about how this woman accomplished so much over her lifetime. Tubman struggled through much adversity as a slave and eventually escaped and helped many more slaves find freedom. She also makes me think of other notable African...

Hello Reader, COLOR You have probably heard about the "color of the year" and wonder if it really matters that much. As artists we use lots of color and don't always think in terms of popularity or style when choosing colors for our work. However, we do want to use color to convey feelings and mood. But I found this article about Pantone's psychology behind choosing the color of the year and it's an important resource for artists or anyone deciding on decorating trends .You will learn the...

How important is your technique? "To be interested solely in technique would be a very superficial thing to me." ANDREW WYETH That is an interesting quote by one of the great American realist painters. Watercolorist, Andrew Newell Wyeth, was primarily a realist painter. He called himself an abstractionist also since he portrayed subjects in a meaningful way that was very different from the expected classical style of realism. His famous painting, Christina's World is a good example of an...

Hello Reader, It's kinda hard to accept Christmas up here in the North without snow but I'm getting used to it. Likely, there will be snow soon and then we'll be anxious for it to end. How about you? Are you ready for some snow scenes - maybe enough to start creating your own? I tried to find some interesting free videos or tutorials on how to paint snow but most were too elementary and Bob Ross wasn't free anymore. My suggestion for you is to wait for the snow to get inspired. If you live...
